Grief and resilience as thanatological foundations in the training of the doctor

Abstract

Background. The main mission of doctors is to a end to the health-disease process in which death is of course implicit. In the current era, an a itude of banality and denial of death predominates, which prevents the human being from preparing to face it. Although it can appear in most cases after an illness, it can also manifest suddenly, this implies thinking that doctors are prepared to talk about death, since the profession forces them to face it frequently. But, this is not the case, because doctors do not want to talk and address the issue either, since by doing so they are accepting their own finiteness and lability. This phenomenon has been notorious during the COVID 19 Pandemic, since the doctor faces the death of the other and his own with insufficient knowledge to address the mourning that generates a loss such as death. Aims: Thus, in this argumentative essay, the subject of thanatology is proposed as a transversal axis during the training of the doctor.
