Legal Regulations and Academic Curriculum Towards Environmental Education Case Universidad Central del Ecuador

Abstract

Context: Of education for environmental sustainability, the learner interacts harmoniously with his environment, understanding that his actions leave a mark in the present and transcend into the future. The role of educational institutions is fundamental since they are the agents of cultural change. This article is developed under this framework; product of the research carried out in the doctoral thesis based on the identification of the role of the Central University of Ecuador in the environmental sustainable development. Aim: To investigate if an education for environmental sustainable development is promoted through the regulations and curricula. Method: The methodology is based on a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research; for this purpose, an investigation of the regulations and curricula was carried out, which were contrasted with interviews to the authorities of the UCE and with the theory consulted. Results: the analysis of the results indicates that UCE currently plays an incipient role in the fulfillment of the norm and academic management from an environmental sustainable perspective. Conclusions: Improvement actions are recommended for the university to promote education for environmental sustainability, which generates socially responsible behavior.
